Like head PTS coach Patrick, Cheryl competed without a wetsuit on a borrowed mountain bike that was way too big for her and had no idea of what to expect. Crossing the finish line, she immediately said, “When is the next race?” Since then, triathlon has become a lifestyle for her and her husband.
Cheryl has been coaching athletes of all ages and in a variety of sports since 1987 so when the opportunity came to put her experience, education, love for coaching and for triathlon together, she took it and became a USAT Certified Coach. “This certification provides the credential to go with my enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience,” she commented, “to help others pursue their triathlon dreams.” Joining PTS as a coach has enabled my athletes to take part in the incredible training opportunities and access the educational materials that PTS has to offer.
Cheryl is a working (not by choice!) mother of two children, ages 12 and 14, and knows the difficulty in balancing everything. One of the greatest things she can do for her clients is to help them arrange their training when life does not go as planned and to ease their minds. Triathlon training is stressful – stressing the body to new limits, fitting training in already tight schedules, etc - but it should not be distressing. That’s where a coach is most needed, helping a client through those difficult times and making them not so difficult.
Recognizing that her personal racing is being downsized to yield to two very active and athletic children, she turns that energy to coaching and following her athletes through training and race day, finding great pleasure in handling the details so they can focus on the experience. Cheryl is accessible by phone and email and ready to help you whether it is your first time or whether you seek to improve your time. |
