In 2000, I decided that I had taken my rowing career about as far as it could go, switched to triathlon, and (almost) never looked back.
While training both for rowing and triathlons, I have worked full- time for federal agencies, non-profits, and the U.S. Congress, and have become proficient at developing and implementing training strategies that complement a heavy work schedule, work-related travel, and congested weekends, but that are still fun and produce strong showings on race day.
I happily race all distances and am happy to train athletes to compete at any and all events. I completed Ironman Lake Placid in 2003 and 2004. In 2005, Patrick McCrann coached me to an 8th place finish at Ironman Canada in 2005 in the W30-34 division. Training for this race forced me to become a better runner and biker – swimming had always been my strong suit. In November of 2006, I got 4th in the W35-39 division at Ironman Florida, fast enough for a Kona slot in 2007! Very exciting.
Over the past few years, I began to notice that other people tended to come to me for advice and training schedules. Wanting to get my words of wisdom onto a more scientific and professional footing, I obtained my USAT Level 1 coaching certification in June 2006, with the intention of getting into coaching sometime.
In September 2006 I moved from Washington, DC to Hawaii with my husband Ted and I will use this momentous life-change as an opportunity to begin coaching triathlon seriously, and give back to the triathlon community some of what it has given me.
