Client: Deb Merrill
Coach: Patrick McCrann
- Town, State: Portsmouth, NH for the last 11 years. I’m never leaving here. Living here is like always being on vacation!
- Training Focus: Knee and back issues, and needing a break from years of just running brought me to triathlon about 4 years ago. I fell in love with swimming and biking and never looked back. While I’ve raced all triathlon distances except Iron, my main focus is Olympic.
- Your “A” Race for 2006: An earlier season peak at the Mooseman Int’l in June and Cranberry Country Olympic distance in August.
- #1 Goal: Improve the run first, and secondarily the swim. My strength is on the bike, and despite a long history of running, it is my weakest area in terms of speed. I had PR’s in both the swim and run early in the season, and then ended up breaking my swim PR again 2 months later by several minutes! Also to leave it on the pavement at every race, to actually race it and feel like I gave it everything I had.
- Athletic Accomplishment You Are Most Proud Of: Sharing my passion for athletics with others. I’ve “rubbed off” on a lot of people over the years and it is so gratifying to see the smile on a friends face when they finish their first 5K, or their first Sprint Triathlon. Just being able to share my knowledge and “pay it forward” keeps my racing and training fresh. It’s always a reminder of where I started too.
- Favorite Snack/Food: Oh of course, it’d be that food group chocolate. Imagine my delight when they started coating energy bars with it….
- I’d rather be…living in the moment. One shot here on earth, better make the best of it.
