The Perfect Pre-Race Plan?

Does such a thing actually exist? Is it possible to have a single training plan that is ideal for racing which will never require alterations? Could it be true that every athlete who has one of these will always do very well at every race in which they participate?

The answers to all of these questions are a resounding "NO!" Why is it then that people say they have a 'plan' or a 'schedule' that they follow for their races…especially important ones? Although these people may have a 'plan' for these events I can guarantee you that it changes every time they participate in a race, even if it is the same race from the previous year. Nothing is ever EXACTLY the same as it was the last time. People change, their fitness level changes and their lives change as well. Kids, jobs, school and other life 'distractions' make the exact same type of training a pretty impossible feat to duplicate.What does this mean for you as an athlete who actually has a life? (Unlike, for example, the gang at PTS?) While training on a set plan is a good idea because most plans will help prevent eager athletes from over-training, it is also a bad idea because every individual is not like the next person who is using the same plan.

This is why getting help with your training is an important part of smart training that will maximize your training time and improve your fitness for your race or races. Consulting with a professional before an important event will enable you to have the program you love so much essentially individualized for your current fitness level and race goals. Just as you would take your car to a mechanic to find out what needs to be done before embarking on a long road trip to your aunt's house, a professional coach will help you determine what you need to change with your training to get to race morning in the best possible shape. Now you do not have to take it from me; however I suggest you ask any athlete who has ever had a coach…or any of the current PTS athletes…what they think. Check out the PTS athlete testimonials. You can get prepared for any event without refinancing your house.

Happy Training;
